Issue 6 - Mid January 2009

COUNTDOWN!

The 20th New Zealand Masters Games opens in just 8 days. Are you ready for this!?!

The opening ceremony takes place on Friday evening 30 January 2009 starting at 7pm. Make sure you are here for this one and start your Games off on a high!

Please note the Registration Centre will close at 7pm on that evening and will not re-open until 8am Saturday 31 Jan 2009.

Entries submitted to the Masters Games Office now attract a late entry fee of $70 (it was $50 before 9 Jan 2009) and we can’t guarantee acceptance until we can confirm the sport you want to enter is still receiving entries.

One way you be sure however is to enter on-line. Acceptance of entry is immediate (if the sport has closed it will not appear on the menu) so you know straight away if you can still get in. You also go into the draw to win back you registration fee, and for a limited time the standard fee of $50 still applies. So it’s not so bad after all. Register on-line today at www.nzmg.com

PICK UP YOUR BAG

pickupThe Games Village opens at 8am on Wednesday 28 January 2009 so you can ‘check-in’ and pick up your Games pack from the Computercare Registration Centre. Enter the Village from the main entrance next to the Jubilee Stadium main entrance and follow the directions to Check-in.

Remember to bring your confirmation letter or email to identify yourself and speed up the ‘check-in’ process.
The Computercare Registration Centre will be open from 8am – 8pm every day except for early closing on Friday 30 Jan & Sun 8 Feb 2009.

TEAMS

teams“Come on Guys, get a move on and get Registered”. Who wants to be a team organiser!?! Sometimes it can be like herding sheep! Well Masters Games is trying to make it as easy as it can for you. If you have registered as the team organiser and/or set up the team using the on-line registration system. You can log on and see who has registered (or more importantly who hasn’t) by clicking on the ‘manage team’ button in the left hand menu. Give it a go and then you may need to get ringing around.

You should have your team setup by now as most sports will have stopped receiving team entries, but it is probably still possible to register more players with the team if you need to. Log onto the on-line registration system and then check out the sport you want and see if it is still open.

If you are looking for more players or you want a team to play with, contact the sports coordinator. Their contact details are in the registration book on the sport coupon or on the sports page of the www.nzmg.com website. The sports coordinator will do their best to accommodate you but unfortunately at this stage they can’t guarantee a fit.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

volleyballThe name immediately conjurers visions of a bronzed pair of super athletes hurling themselves about on golden sand under a blazing midday sun.  At the 2009 ACC NZ Masters Games in Wanganui we can give you all that… well almost!

We have the golden sand, the warm sun and the court all set up right in the NZCT Games Village. All you have to bring is your team. Teams of 4 (or more with subs), having a minimum of 2 women on the court can have a fun day on Sunday 8 February pumping and spiking it out on the especially imported golden sand.

And you can wear as much sun protecting clothing as you like. Those kinky dress standards don’t apply to Masters Beach Volleyball. In fact prizes will be up for grabs for the wackiest team uniform on the day.

What a better way to wind up your Masters campaign than with a day at the ‘beach’. Entries remain open until Saturday evening so get a team together during the week, do the on-line registration or pop into the Computercare Registration Centre and then front up Sunday morning for a great day in the sun.

1960’s THEME

volleyballLooking for some inspiration. Get into the theme with a neat 1960’s costume of your favourite 60’s icon or classic gear from that era. Either way if your personal wardrobe isn’t helping you out, then get hold of one of these places. They would be more than happy to help you out and give you special treatment as a Masters participant.
